BEYGOOD4BURUNDI

Bringing safe water to the most vulnerable women and children in Burundi – one of the poorest countries in the world

BEYGOOD4BURUNDI was born in 2017 when Beyoncé Knowles-Carter partnered with UNICEF through her BeyGOOD philanthropic arm. The aim is to provide safe water to the most vulnerable children in Burundi.

The project has helped build and rehabilitate 84 water points so far, delivering safe water to over 30,000 people.

Globally, girls and women spend around 200 million hours every day gathering water, and that is even more true in Burundi, also known as the “Heart of Africa” and one of the poorest countries in the world.

Without water close to home, girls across Burundi often miss out on a chance to go to school because they are walking long distances to collect water.

The journey is not always safe, and many girls are at risk of attack.

Gucci has been supporting the initiative since 2018 when the brand and UNICEF first came together to run the 2018 NYC Marathon and committed to raise funds for BEYGOOD4BURUNDI through the Gucci’s employees. The initiative was particularly successful and was replicated in 2019.

37 Gucci employees run the marathon over the past two years, raising a total of $168,000 for BEYGOOD4BURUNDI and UNICEF project.
