Exquisite Gucci fashion show promotes sustainability best practices
Marking the first in-person fashion show to take place at the Gucci Hub in Milan in two years, the House presented Exquisite Gucci on February 25th during Milan Fashion Week. During the occasion, sustainability best practices were behind the production and management of the debut of former Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s new collection.
The Gucci Hub in Milan is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified building. As an internationally recognized rating system for green buildings and a symbol of sustainability achievement, LEED provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving built environments. The event management of the show itself was certified against ISO 20121 and verified by an independent third party. Also considered a best-in-class standard, ISO 20121 addresses the environmental, social, and economic aspects of an event across all stages of its production and the associated supply chain. Starting from the first-ever ISO 20121 certified international fashion show for the House’s Spring Summer 2020 presentation in September 2019, Exquisite Gucci continues the House’s ongoing commitment to sustainability. In 2020, ISO 20121 certification extended to all of Gucci’s presentations including fashion shows, digital events, and advertising campaigns.
From its initial planning to realization, the majority of equipment and production elements for the Exquisite Gucci fashion show will be reused or donated to third parties while others were rented. Building circularity into show production to ensure a second life is given to set materials has been a long-term approach by the House. Gucci has partnered with La Réserve des Arts and Spazio Meta to creatively upcycle the Exquisite Gucci fashion show materials.
Further sustainability best practices were adopted on-set such as a focus on waste management and the collection, sorting and recycling of waste via single stream recycling bins. Catering featured raw natural, biological foods with plastic-free packaging and utensils while leftover food was donated to local charities. Water fountains were also rented for the show and reusable aluminum bottles were provided to production staff.
