As a fashion-first Gucci achieved ISO 20121 certification for fashion shows
We have taken the pioneering step of certifying our fashion shows according to the international standard ISO 20121. The standard provides a framework and guidance for designing a sustainable event from start to finish.
Beginning with the Spring/Summer 2020 show held in September 2019, we measure and mitigate the environmental impact of our fashion shows and optimise all planning and processes involved so that they are more environmentally efficient: sustainable sourcing and favouring materials that can be reused, recycled or rented; prioritising local catering; avoiding single-use plastic; donating leftover food; using green electricity and LED lighting; and choosing more eco-friendly transport. To ensure these actions are aligned with the ISO 20121 standard, an accredited third party verifies the management system of Gucci’s fashion shows.
As part of various activities to support positive outcomes in the regions where we hold our fashion shows, we held our first tree-planting following our SS 2020 show in Milan in October 2019, which was organised with the NGO Rete Clima and attended by former President and Gucci CEO, Marco Bizzarri, Milan’s Mayor, Beppe Sala, the President of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (National Chamber of Italian Fashion), Carlo Capasa, and Gucci’s employees as part of the Gucci Changemakers volunteer programme. So far, Gucci has donated thousands of trees to the Municipality of Milan, contributing to urban reforestation under the ForestaMi project.
